A Game Changer; ownership, interoperability and collaboration
Blockchain enables a transformative experience for gamers
We’ve shared our ambition to make the best Web 3 games out there, and pull in 2.7 billion gamers, and we want to be completely transparent with you about how we plan to do that.
Our ‘game first’ philosophy means we spend a lot of time thinking about how we can deliver epic, awesome and hugely compelling experiences.
Web 3 gaming is awash with buzzwords, but what do these really mean for the gamer?
As we embrace and incorporate blockchain technology into our first project — Resurgence — we need to understand and most importantly — tell you — how this transforms the player’s experience and how it delivers something new and exciting.
What are the benefits of blockchain technology?
Primarily, it facilitates ownership of in-game assets. It creates new opportunities to monetise your gameplay, but more importantly it means as a committed player, the things you have worked so hard for cannot be taken away. Even aside from the ability to earn, you will always benefit from the fact that you truly own the things you’ve work so hard to buy, earn or create. Also, through in-game tokens, you have a say in the game itself. You are not just a participant, you become an investor, taking an active stake in the game.
The token ecosystem can also allow players to vote on certain aspects of the game and its governance as part of the DAO structure (decentralised autonomous organisation), via tokens.
Then players can actually own the game, just as you might own shares in a company.
Another groundbreaking concept is interoperability.
What this means is that the tokens or in-game assets players acquire don’t just help them within the game, but they can be moved outside of the game and still have utility. Players could take part in defi (decentralized finance) applications like token staking, or lend their assets to others and be paid rent for them via a guild system.
It’s blockchain that makes this all possible — as it is an incorruptible ledger that proves ownership and authenticity of digital assets (like tokens and NFTs). It’s the common ground. Finally, blockchain technology can really up the ante in gameplay, particularly when you look at MMOs where coordination is so key. It’s possible to create alliances and synergies not seen in gaming before. For example, if everyone owns a certain NFT, they might experience the same upside if they build on a certain piece of land or if they all look to hunt a certain creature — NFTs become social organizing tools When players collaborate in certain activities or quests, there is a whole new way of rewarding players who contribute.
At Emergent Games, we intend to raise the bar here. This world is entirely new and we’re still developing the tools to navigate it for the best outcomes. But, we are asking you to stay tuned for more! And promising you that it will be worth it.
